The format of the SAT changed in March 2016 to better reflect the kind of reading and math students will encounter in college and their future work lives. The “new” SAT is better aligned with Common Core standards. In effect, the SAT has been redesigned to be more like the ACT with the recent change: four sections, no penalty for wrong answers, optional essay. Despite the similar types of knowledge and skills required to succeed on both tests, the SAT and ACT still have many profound differences, especially when it comes to the Reading and Math sections.

Mann Prep’s SAT program has evolved with the recent changes to the SAT and our students have continued to experience big increases in their scores after working with us.

Starting Score Final Score Average Points Gained
<1000 1200+ 200-300 points
1000-1100 1250-1350 150-200 points
1100-1200 1300-1400 100-200 points
1200+ 1350+ 100+ points

We help you to improve in the Reading, Writing, and Math sections of the test with our simple but proven effective approach:

  • Diagnose your individual weaknesses and areas of opportunity to improve your score
  • Teach you the fundamental skills and strategies you need to address your weaknesses and have you reinforce the skills with targeted practice and exercises
  • Apply your newly learned or refined skills and strategies to real SAT problems
  • Review your mistakes and understand why you made the mistake and how to avoid it in the future
  • Bolster your strengths and look for opportunities to gain more points
  • Provide Time Management strategies to stay ahead of the clock
  • Monitor your progress on all sections of the test using timed practice sections
  • Repeat the steps above until you’ve reached your goals!

Typically, students will need to devote 2-3 hours of time for homework in between sessions. The homework consists of worksheets, ACT practice problems and sections, and reading instruction on specific concepts which need review.

One of the biggest challenges with the ACT is finishing all four sections within the allotted time. We give you the strategies and skills to ensure you pace yourself properly and finish problems more quickly and accurately by tailoring our approach to your needs.
